I think we all know of the Kristen Bell sloth story - where her husband, Dax Shepard, surprised her for a sloth for her birthday. Well, sloths are Kristen's favorite animal so she had an utter meltdown over the concept of meeting one. It as, needless to say, adorable. Ellen aired the video a while ago if you want to go seek it out.
But sloths aren't the only thing Kristen is adorable about. She touched upon her adoption story of her pups, Lola and Mr. Shakes, on Josh Duhamel's series, Rescue Waggin’: Tales From the Road. So just how did Lola and Mr. Shakes end up with Kristen? She shared her adoption story of first meeting them eight years ago...
Let's start with Lola. The spunky Welsh Corgi-Chow Chow mix was returned to the shelter by two different families, who claimed she was an "escape artist" and didn't want to take the time to train her. But Kristen could see something in her, and when she met her at the shelter, she just "felt right" to her. She said that for the first month, Lola was very much an escape artist, but Kristen persisted. Once Lola realized that she was home, she stopped trying to escape. Kristen said that's when she knew they were "very best friends."
But Kristen didn't stop with Lola the day the adoption came around. She knew that with her busy schedule, Lola might need a friend to keep her company during the day. So that's when Kristen found Mr. Shakes, a Welsh Corgi-Chihuahua mix. And Mr. Shakes was very lucky that she came in that day because sadly, he was first in line to be euthanized next. But Kristen swooped in and saved the day, and now they are all a happy brood.
Kristen very much encourages adopting from shelters instead of buying from breeders. The happy life she is able to give Mr. Shakes is an example of just how much good adoption can do. Let's applaud Kristen for her endless love of her pups and animals. She loves her dogs so much that she admitted she was afraid she wouldn't love her first child as much as she loves her dogs. (Thankfully she does.) Go Kristen!
