Hero Spotlight Sunday – Destiny

Never judge a book by its cover, or a dog by its breed.  Nearly none of us in the dog community buy into the rumor that pit bulls are vicious attack dogs.  The best, sweetest, most gentle dog I ever had was a pit bull.  Unfortunately, some people believe that these sweet and gentle pit bulls simply don’t exist.

Destiny, a pit bull from Fort Collins, Colorado, proves those people wrong.

In July of 2006, Wayne Myers’ nine-year-old son was playing outside in his backyard with Destiny, the family’s pit bull.  Myers was working on a car in the driveway at about 7:20 p.m. when he heard Destiny barking.  He knew something was immediately wrong because of the tone of her barking.  It wasn’t playful like she normally barked.  Immediately fearing that something happened to his son, Myers ran through his house.  He saw his son being pulled over the fence by a man.  He then saw Destiny bark and charge at the man, who let go of the boy and ran away.

Myers credits Destiny with saving his son’s life.  She not only barked to alert everyone of danger, but chased the assailant away.  A brave, protective, and loving pit bull.
